Cheerleaders gathering toys for Children’s Hospital

Chatham Phoenix Cheer is holding a Christmas toy drive for the Children’s Hospital in London.

The team, who practice out of the former D.A. Gordon Public School in Wallaceburg, will be collecting toys along the route of the Wallaceburg Santa Claus Parade on Saturday, November 18. The parade starts at 2 p.m.

Nicole Okrucky, the head coach of the team, told the Sydenham Current it was the team members’ idea to hold the fundraiser.

“They wanted to do it last year but by the time they mentioned it we didn’t have enough time,” she said.

If you are unable to bring a new and ‘like new’ toy to the Santa Claus Parade, they can be brought to D.A. Gordon at 430 King Street in Wallaceburg every Monday and Thursday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The toy drive started November 5 and will run to December 5.

The group can also be reached through Facebook, by phone at 519-360-8718.
