Lakers blank first place Canadiens for third win of the season

The Wallaceburg Lakers picked up their third win of the season on Wednesday, blanking the first place Lakeshore Canadiens, 2-0.

After a scoreless first period, Ty Lucio found the back of the net at the 5:37 mark of the second period, with helpers from Ryan MacAlpine and Conner Lovell.

Cam Wheeler also scored in the second period at the 19:01 mark, with Bailey Smith and Matthew Brevetti picking up assists.

Travis Moore was stellar between the pipes for Wallaceburg, stopping all 37 Lakeshore shots.

The Canadiens out-shot the Lakers 37-21.

The win marks the first for new head coach Ryan Paxton.

The Lakers’ record now sits at 3-25-0-0, last in the West Stobbs Division of the Provincial Junior Hockey League.

Meanwhile, Lakeshore still sits atop the standings with a 19-6-2-3 record, tied with Essex for first place.

The Lakers will hit the road this weekend, visiting Amherstburg on Friday night and Mooretown on Saturday.
