Extreme cold warning in effect

An extreme cold warning is in effect across Chatham-Kent, as windchill values near minus 30 are expected tonight and early Wednesday morning.

Environment Camada officials say temperatures will likely drop to near minus 20 degrees tonight.

Forecasters say the conditions will improve later Wednesday morning.

“Extreme cold puts everyone at risk,” Environment Canada officials stated.

“Cover up. Frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with wind chill. Check on older family, friends and neighbours. If it’s too cold for you to stay outside, it’s too cold for your pet to stay outside.”

Forecasters say extreme cold warnings are issued when very cold temperatures or wind chill creates an elevated risk to health such as frost bite and hypothermia.
