– MPP Monte McNaughton is hosting a New Year’s Levee on Saturday at the Legion in Wallaceburg. It will run from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. All are welcome and there is no charge to attend, however, McNaughton’s staff is asking anyone interested in attending to RSVP in advance by phoning 1-800-265-3916.

– Volunteers for the 2017 United Way of Chatham-Kent fundraising campaign continue to work tirelessly towards achieving their goal of $1,72 Million. They are currently trending towards achieving 95% of their goal. The campaign closes on January 8, with an achievement announcement being made on January 11.

– January is Alzheimer’s Awareness Month, an opportunity for all Canadians to increase their awareness of dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease, which continues to have a significant and growing impact across Canada. More than 400,000 Canadians aged 65 and older have been diagnosed with dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease.

– Melody Emery is set to shave her head, in support of a friend in need. The event will be held on Sunday, January 14 at the Merlin Legion starting at 3 p.m. A very good friend of Melody’s was recently diagnosed with cancer, and all proceeds from the event will go to the Bill Davison family. – Municipal budget open houses are planned across the community. The 2018 budget process will get under way on Wednesday, January 17 when the draft municipal budget will be presented to council. There are several opportunities for public comment during the three week review process. A public open house is being held on Wednesday, January 24 from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Wallaceburg Municipal Office. A brief presentation will be made at 5 p.m.
