Search comes up empty on Lake St. Clair

A search came on empty on Lake St. Clair on Tuesday, after witnesses thought they spotted a dog and a person on the lake.

OPP officials say on January 23, 2018 at approximately 5:45 p.m. the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Essex Windsor Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Lakeshore Fire Department and a United States Coast Guard Helicopter responded to a search on Lake St. Clair in Lakeshore.

Earlier in the day on Tuesday the OPP received a report of a dog spotted on an ice flow near the foot of East Puce Road (Essex County Road 25) but due to unsafe lake conditions, the dog was not located.

OPP officials say on Tuesday evening, a resident reported observing with binoculars what appeared to be a person standing on the ice, but due to the time of day and distance from shore this could not be confirmed.

The United States Coast Guard helicopter searched the area for approximately 90 minutes with negative results, OPP officials say.

At of Tuesday evening, therewere no reports of missing or overdue persons in the area.

Anyone with information regarding this incident are asked to contact the Lakeshore OPP detachment at 519-728-1810 or the OPP Provincial Communications Center at 1-888-310-1122.
