The Wallaceburg Tartan swimmers made the ‘plaid proud’ at OFSAA in Windsor this week.

Wallaceburg’s coaches say Emily Tapp had an amazing championship, clocking her fastest times of the season in all of her races.

Tapp had to be at her best to make an afternoon final in the 200 metre freestyle and she did it.

She took two seconds off her season’s personal best to place 14th in the morning prelims.

Tapp swam another amazing race in the afternoon, clocking a time that was still one second faster than her seed time for an overall ranking of 15th in the province.

“Emily kept to her game plan, trusted her training and sprinted her 100 metre freestyle to clock yet another personal best time of 1:09.95,” said Nancy Schinkelshoek, the team’s head coach.

“She took one second off her time to improve her provincial ranking from 34th to 25th.”

Tartans swimmer Shona Branton also recorded a personal best time in the Open 100 metre breaststroke.

“There is no age division in the open category, and Shona held her own in a field involving swimmers from Grade 9 to 12,” Schinkelshoek said.

“Shona placed 3rd in the morning prelims behind two Grade 12 swimmers that went on to break an OFSAA record. Just two hours later, Shona bettered her best time again in the afternoon finals to earn an outstanding 4th place. Shona missed the bronze medal by just 3/10 of a second.”

The meet involved 368 schools and 2,600 participants.
