SIU called in after arrest in Chatham

The province’s Special Investigation Unit is investigating after an arrest in Chatham.

Chatham-Kent OPP officials allege on March 11, 2018 around 12 a.m., officers conducted a traffic stop on Park Avenue East in Chatham.

Police officials say as a result, the female driver was arrested.

During the interaction, the female sustained injuries and was transported to hospital where she was treated and released into police custody, police say.

The driver, a 24-year-old Chatham woman has been charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

– Fail or refuse to provide a sample,

– Resist peace officer,

– Assault a peace officer,

– Flight while pursued by peace officer, and with

– Obstruct peace officer.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on April 4, 2018 to answer to the charges.

The OPP has notified the province’s Special Investigation Unit (SIU) which has invoked its mandate.

As a result, the OPP will not be able to provide any further information.
