A school shooting threat was circulated in Chatham-Kent this week. Const. Renee Cowell of the Chatham-Kent Police Service says a photo on social media referenced a possible school shooting for this Friday. Later in the day on Wednesday, an arrest was made by Waterloo Regional Police Service in connection with the school threat. A young person was arrested by Waterloo police and charged with Mischief under $5,000 and Uttering Threats to Cause Bodily Harm or Death.

Chatham-Kent police officials say on Friday afternoon, police were notified of a threatening photo on Instagram referencing Wallaceburg District Secondary School. Police officials allege that through investigation, the youth responsible was identified and located. The 15-year-old Wallaceburg youth was arrested and charged with uttering threats.

Charges have been laid after an alleged dog attack in Wallaceburg on March 17. Animal control services say an 8-year-old, male bull terrier allegedly attacked a Shih Tzu, Poodle mix while it was tethered outside it’s home. Officials say the bull terrier has been seized and a 36-year-old Wallaceburg man has been charged with multiple charges under the Dog Owners’ Liability Act as well as Chatham-Kent’s Responsible Animal Ownership By-law.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service has created a Bicycle Registry to assist in the identification and recovery of stolen or found bicycles. Local bicycle retailers will be provided with information cards to promote the Bicycle Registry. Citizens are encouraged to register all their bicycles, new and old. Wallaceburg`s Leah Barnier recently celebrated her eighth birthday. Instead of gifts, she asked for donations of gift cards to the Chatham-Kent Hospice. Leah has a special connection to Hospice through a loved one. Leah’s friends and family responded generously and as a result, Leah donated $375 in gift cards to the Chatham-Kent Hospice.
