The merger of St. Thomas Energy and Entegrus Powerlines was celebrated with a ceremony in St. Thomas on April 4.

The merger, in which Entegrus assumed 70 per cent of the St. Thomas utility, had received Ontario Energy Board final approval April 1.

Corix Utilities is a third partner in the merger.

Entegrus is now the tenth largest utility in the province, serving 58,000 customers in 17 communities in Southwestern Ontario.

The firm has 130 employees and has offices in St. Thomas, Chatham and Strathroy.

Entegrus CEO Jim Hogan said the two firms have a joint history of a century of service to their respective communities.

“Together, we can now shift our focus to be a regional utility that focuses on individual community needs while keeping local employment strong,” he said in a press release.

Chatham-Kent Mayor Randy Hope said he is “pleased and proud” that St. Thomas City Council chose to merge with the Chatham-Kent based utility.

“Entegrus has proven to be an extremely well-operated firm and we believe the same of St. Thomas Energy,” he said in a press release.

“Customers can expect the same high level of service and reliability they have enjoyed in the past.”

St. Thomas City Council member Gary Clarke said the merger will benefit both communities.
