Another successful Relaxed Performance at the Victoria Petrolia Playhouse!

WALLACEBURG, Ontario – The second of three Relaxed Performances held on Saturday, June 23rd, 2018, at the Victoria Playhouse in Petrolia was a great success. The songs of John Denver had guests clapping and singing along as the cast took the stage to play tribute to the legendary country boy. There was a relaxed attitude to noise and movement within the auditorium, and some minor production changes were made to reduce the intensity of light, sound and other potentially startling effects.

This event was offered through a joint venture with Community Living Wallaceburg and Victoria Playhouse in Petrolia (VPP). Relaxed performances are specifically designed to accommodate those who will benefit from a less restrictive audience environment. Everyone was welcome to attend, including but not limited to those with intellectual or learning disabilities, sensory processing conditions or autism. Reduced ticket prices for all three shows were made possible through a grant from the South Kent Wind Community Fund, a donor advised fund of the Chatham Kent Community Foundation.

“The cast provided an energetic, upbeat show for the audience, while allowing everyone the opportunity to enjoy the show and music in their own way. With the support of The Chatham-Kent Community Foundation, rides were provided to over 45 patrons and ticket prices were set at a more attainable cost of $20 each or $60 for a family,” says Alisha Allaer, Communications and Fund Development Associate from Community Living Wallaceburg. “Together, with the three organizations, we are able open access to a musical performance for those who otherwise would not have that opportunity. It was an inspiring evening and a fun night out for the whole family!”

Audience member, Sandra Throne, had this to say about the show “We were thrilled to attend a Relaxed Performance at Victoria Playhouse Petrolia. The informal setting was perfect to enjoy the music, sets and excitement of the theatre, together as a family. We hope that Relaxed Performance Theatre is here to stay!”
One more show in the 2018 season at Victoria Playhouse Petrolia will be offered in a relaxed format.
