Near drowning in the Channel Ecarte

Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) continues to investigate a near drowning which occurred in the Channel Ecarte on Lake St. Clair.

OPP officials allege on August 23, 2018, around 6:30 a.m., members of the Walpole Island First Nation Police, Chatham-Kent Police Service and Chatham-Kent Fire and Emergency Services responded to a near drowning complaint.

Investigation revealed, around 12 a.m., a group of friends were out boating when the victim fell into the water, police say.

The victim was pulled from the water and brought to shore where, due to the darkness, they had to wait until morning to be rescued.

Emergency responders were able to locate the missing boaters and the adult was subsequently transported to hospital in serious condition.

The adult remains in hospital and no further updates are available at this time.
