Cathy Tiffin’s ‘good deeds & charitable works will be missed’

The founder of the Selkirk History Faire and a long-time volunteer in Wallaceburg, has died.

Catherine Douglas Tiffin, a resident of Wallaceburg, died suddenly in Wallaceburg on Tuesday, August 28.

She was 81.

“Cathy was a past president of CUPE, had worked at the Wallaceburg Childcare Learning Centre, Fiesta Restaurant, cooked at the AA Wright for over 17 years, was a faithful volunteer at the Royal Canadian Legion, helped with WAMBO, the Sydenham District Hospital Auxiliary, soccer, fireworks committee and helped to establish the Selkirk Historical Fair,” he obituary says.

“Her good deeds and charitable works will be missed.”

Cathy is the daughter of the late Alfred & Helen (Curry) Docherty.

She is predeceased by her husband’s George Paterson and Richard Tiffin.

She is the loving mother of Scott Docherty Paterson (Catherine) and Lorna Shepley (Robert).

She’s also the dear grandmother of Aleah Katie Paterson Das (Nathan), Chase Cellotto-Paterson (Rachel), Greg, Jack, Tara (Ken) and Bob Shepley.

She’s also the sister of Helen, Pam, Douglas and Alfred.

Many people from the community have shared memories about Cathy as well in online tributes.

“Cathy always brightened my day with her smile, her determination, and her pure joy,” wrote Tracey Rieger.

“Cathy was a fun loving giving person she will be missed our sympathies to her family,” wrote Jean Caron.

“This wonderful lady opened her home to my family our first night in Canada and we’ve considered her family and loved her ever since,” wrote Tracy Gillanders. “She treated us like her own and I know we all are forever thankful for her being in our lives. We will miss you dearly Aunt Cathy. Thoughts and prayers to the whole family.”

“She was a very kind and thoughtful lady and will be missed dearly,” wrote Sharon and Dan Fields.

“She was a wonderful lady and will be sadly missed but fondly remembered,” wrote Lisa Lozon and Chris Robbins.

“We remember with great joy the amazing woman she was,” wrote Katie and David Solek. “Her laugh, her killer smile, her strength, and the heart as big as all outdoors will be missed greatly. Our deepest sympathies and prayers go to all the family of whom she was so proud and who she loved so dearly.”

A memorial service will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 18 in Wallaceburg on Sunday, September 9 at 2 p.m. with visiting to follow until 4 p.m.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Haycock-Cavanagh Funeral Home.
