Chatham-Kent Council met for a combined regular/planning meeting on Monday night, December 17, 2018.

– A tender award contract for Wallaceburg Memorial Arena renovations was approved. Watch for a full story on the Sydenham Current.
– A tender award contract for the rehabilitation of the Lord Selkirk Bridge over the Sydenham River in Wallaceburg was approved. Watch for a full story on the Sydenham Current.
– Other tender award contracts for: Charing Cross Road/Middle Line Traffic Signal Improvements, Middleton Line over Two Creeks, East Branch, Bridge Rehabilitation in Wheatley and Lacroix Street Underpass Concrete Repairs in Chatham were also given the green light.
– An application for a deeming by-law in Tilbury was approved.
– A report on the Entegrus Inc. 2018 Annual General Meeting was approved.
– Community Improvement Plans Review for downtown and commercial areas was approved.
– Recreational Cannabis Retail Stores will be allowed in Chatham-Kent, after Council voted in favour of opting-in.
– Chatham Coun. Doug Sulman entered a notice of motion to request from the Province that municipalities be given regulatory powers over the location of marijuana stores in their communities and the retail marijuana sales location be restricted within a 500 metres of schools, recreational centres, community centres, parks and libraries.
– A report on citizen appointments to committees of Council & local boards was approved.
– A report on Councillor appointments to committees of Council, local boards & corporations was approved.
– A notice of motion by Chatham Coun. Karen Kirkwood-Whyte to create a CK Transit Task Force was given the go ahead.
– A notice of motion by West Kent Coun. Melissa Harrigan was approved. This will result in Council considering during budget deliberations the possibility of holding summer camps in Tilbury and Bothwell next summer.
– A notice of motion by South Kent Coun. Trevor Thompson to have staff work with the Erie-St. Clair LHIN on creating a Primary Care Practitioner Recruitment and Retention Program in Chatham-Kent was approved. This report will come back to Council for discussion during the upcoming budget process.
– Council approved a report on the Chatham twin pad arena update and public consultation.
– A report on the speed limit on Eighth Line at Bloomfield Road in Raleigh was approved.
– A final report for the 2018 Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling, including a video, was approved.
– An update on the Chatham-Kent Workforce Planning Board was provided and approved by Council.
– Several planning applications were approved by Council, including a zoning by-law amendment and site plan control for a property on Dolsen Road in Chatham. The approval gives the go ahead for a two storey multiple unit affordable housing complex to be constructed, which will contain 14 one-bedroom dwelling units.
– Chatham Coun. Brock McGregor entered a notice of motion requesting from staff a “lessons learned report” related to the 10/7 Café.
