From The Pastor’s Pen – By Brian Horrobin
The Gospel of Luke, chapter 2, verse 7, records for us these words: “And she gave birth to her first-born son; and she wrapped Him in cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.”
Here we are today, in the 21st century, some 2,000 years after the birth of Jesus Christ, and the old adage is still true: “the more things change, the more they stay the same.”
People make room in their lives at Christmas for whatever they deem to be important.
One more shopping trip, a day away to attend the big game, the company Christmas party, a mini vacation… whatever!
The other travelers that night in Bethlehem, so long ago, were so preoccupied with getting a room at the inn for the government census that they left no room for their future Saviour and King.
It’s hard to fault these unsuspecting pilgrims 20 centuries later, but we must ask ourselves, are we missing the forest for the trees?
In the midst all of our holiday plans have left any room for the One who matters the most?
If Jesus were to come to our home this Christmas would He be welcomed warmly, or would we sadly have to tell Him that there is no room at our inn?
Today is the last Sunday before Christmas.
Why not decide to accept Christ’s invitation for you to ‘come to the manger’ and meet Him there?
There are also some Christmas Eve and Christmas Day services in our community.
If today doesn’t work for you, why not try one of them?
Better still, do both and then come back next Sunday and make it a habit.
You’ll be glad you did!
