Following strong turnout at last week’s community open house sessions, Chatham-Kent Council is seeking continued public input as it heads into budget deliberations this week.
More than 120 people attended open houses in Blenheim, Dresden, Tilbury, Chatham and Wallaceburg last week, a number that pleased budget chair Counc. Brock McGregor.
“It’s good to see so many people interested in the process both in terms of educating themselves on how it works and providing feedback on what they would like to see in the community,” he said.
Budget Committee deliberations are scheduled for January 30, 31 and February 5 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. in council chambers. Tentative sessions are scheduled February 6 and 7 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the same location.
Budget sessions will not be televised but are open to the public.
Written and verbal presentations of up to five minutes are welcome each evening – please sign up at the door. Deputations for the January 30 session will begin at 8 p.m.
On all other nights, deputations will begin at 6 p.m.

Gord Quinton, Chatham-Kent’s Director, Budget & Performance Services, said the municipality has prepared three videos dealing with budget basics, learning how property tax is calculated and assessment growth.
