On April 10, 2019, Curative Cannabis hosted a very successful job fair at the Active Lifestyle Centre in Chatham. The event, which was held in partnership with Economic Development, Chatham-Kent Workforce Planning Board, Goodwill Career Centre, and Employment and Social Services, saw more than 600 people attend.
“While we knew it was going to be busy, it was such a delight when over 270 arrived in the first two hours and then at least double that joined for the second session,” said Brenleigh Knutson, VP of Business Development at Curative Cannabis. “Everyone was so patient and accommodating as they worked through the registration, application, and interview stages. The entire group showcased a level of quality and class of which all of Chatham-Kent should be proud.”
Knutson added, “It was also wonderful to see such a range of diversity in the room which gave us the opportunity to interview candidates who have a variety of skills, experiences, and backgrounds in order to be best matched with jobs currently available, and also potential jobs in the future.”
The goal of the event was to help Curative Cannabis identify candidates to recruit a total of 28 new staff into primarily full-time positions, with the Harvester positions being part-time. The positions included:
Accountant / Bookkeeper
Quality Control Technician
Grow Technician
Inventory Manager
Harvesters
Sanitation Technician
Laboratory Manager / Technician
Front Office Staff (Reception / Administration)
In addition to the job opportunities at Curative Cannabis, Goodwill Career Centre was also working with attendees to help identify potential employment opportunities at other businesses across Chatham-Kent.
“It is important to make sure that people have access to all of the information they need to make their best choice for a career in Chatham-Kent,” said Michelle Repuski, Director of Workforce Development at Goodwill Career Centre. “That is why we work collaboratively with our partners to help bring all of the puzzle pieces together.”
“I think it was clear from the success of this event, that we are seeing an opportunity to connect employers who are looking for a talented workforce with people from across the region who are eager to step into quality careers,” said Anthony Wilson, Economic Development Officer with Chatham-Kent Economic Development. “I spoke with dozens of people, some of who were looking for a job, those who were looking at changing careers, and others who were exploring the possibility of calling Chatham-Kent home.”
Audrey Ansell, Manager of Chatham-Kent Community Attraction and Promotion said, “A job fair is just one of many tools and supports available to help employers, and we want to make sure that businesses in the region know that they can rely on us to be a point of contact if they are looking to attract talent, both local and new.”
