This is a casual/relief position with no standard weekly hours of work. There are no guaranteed hours; work will be offered as per the Community and Family Services hours of operation: Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. includes a ½-hour unpaid meal break where applicable. Some travel is required. Normal hours of work: Supervisor will offer work as work becomes available.
Normal location of work includes multiple work locations, 19 Raleigh Street, Chatham, ON, 18 Main Street, Ridgetown, ON, 600 Lowe Avenue, Wallaceburg and 24 Talbot Street, Blenhiem
Note: work hours may be extended during the Christmas season to include evenings and Saturdays.

Responsibilities
Conduct initial intake application and screen clients for general emergency assistance, including food, clothing household needs, referrals etc.
Maximize utilization of all computerized management programs, i.e. Link2feed program and/or external programs as necessary.
Maintain accurate records of client information on computerized systems while maintaining confidentiality and prepare/provide statistical reports and monthly statistics as necessary for DHQ reporting, (SAMIS)
Through exercising empathetic care, assist individuals to determine an appropriate and mutually agreed upon goals; facilitates effective problem-solving behaviors of the client/family.
Refer clients to Community Services Officer for pastoral assistance
Maintain food bank stock, cleanliness, tidiness, and organization of food bank area; supervise food drives for Wallaceburg.
Periodically review assistance guidelines with Community Services Officer.
Promote Summer Camp program, and complete camper applications
Oversee and coordinate seasonal programs—Christmas Hamper applications for toys and food hampers and Christmas toy and food drives
Community Involvement—participation at community meetings as approved by the Community Services Officer
Work with other family services staff to maintain, promote and improve the profile of The Salvation Army in the community.
May direct and supervise volunteers which includes recruitment, selection, orientation and training of volunteers working in reception, food bank and other family service functions
Perform other position related duties as required.
Keep food bank areas tidy and clean and organized making sure washrooms are cleaned daily.
Qualifications
Completion of a Community College Diploma in Social Service Worker or counselling or equivalent
Minimum of two (2) year of prior related experience, including experience working with multi-barriered persons, individuals with mental health issues a variety of social service programs.
Knowledge of community-based resources is required and experience networking with government and social service agencies.
Attentive listening skills.
Strong oral and written communication skills

Be able to lift/move up to 40 pounds.
Safe Food Handling Certification
Self-motivated and disciplined
Able to work independently and as part of a team
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team with supervision in a multi-faceted environment
Demonstrated ability to work within a computerized environment; computer literate in Micro Soft Office products
Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License, personal vehicle required and insurance, current copy of driver’s abstract that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.
Provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required. The screening is secured either through the national Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) or through a local police detachment.
Screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry.
Support for and an understanding of the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada.
