CrossFit athletes compete in ‘True Grit’ event

On Saturday April 13t Ballistic Fitness in Wallaceburg sent five teams of two to CrossFit Shallow Lakes for the 2019 True Grit competition, which was held just outside of Owen Sound.

There was 10 athletes total and some were competing for the eighth time and some for their first time.

Hope Johnston won an award for the youngest athlete at 14-years-old competing with adults.

Hope was teamed up with Emily Tapp, 17, placing 11th.

Other Ballistic Fitness female teams were: Carol Christopoulos and Sarah Cogghe, who teamed up for the podium in third place.

Joanna Langstaff and Sarah Moniz teamed up placing 10th.

Tina Bunda and Rachel Johnston teamed up placing 13th.

The Ballistic Fitness male team was Rod Langstaff and Steve White.

They placed well through four events three firsts and one second to take 1st place overall.

Events included tests of strength, a complex to find a maximum weight in six minutes of one squat clean, one  front squat and one split jerk, rowing for calories, box jumps, deadlifts, burpees, assault bike for calories and many more movements.

“Winning 1st place with my teammate Steve felt good,” Langstaff said in a written statement.

“Seeing how impressive our athletes represented their gym, Wallaceburg, and themselves felt incredible. There was more smiles than could be counted. The day was filled with all kinds of great feelings.”
