Election complaints rejected

Chatham-Kent’s compliance audit committee met Wednesday evening and rejected all ten complaints made by Robert Salvatore Powers.

Powers, who ran unsuccessfully for Chatham-Kent Mayor in last year’s election, submitted applications to the municipality in April and early May alleging that eight council candidates breached the Municipal Elections Act by not claiming financial contributions in the mandated post-election disclosure forms, Municipal officials said in a press release.

These are the first election compliance audit applications received by the municipality during the past three elections according to Judy Smith, Chatham-Kent’s director of municipal governance.

Written decisions will be provided by June 2.

There is a 15-day window to appeal the decision to the Ontario Superior Court of Justice.
