Chatham-Kent Council met for a regular meeting on Monday night, May 27, 2019.

Here is a recap of the meeting:
– Council approved a motion to replace Chatham Memorial Arena and Erickson Arena with a twin pad and an Indoor Multisport Community Centre. Watch for a full story on the Sydenham Current.
– A report about Chatham-Kent’s Concert Bands, including a recommendation to provide the Wallaceburg Concert Band with over $18,000 in funding, was approved. Watch for more on this story.
– A motion by South Kent Councillor Anthony Ceccacci about a Sandbag Program was approved.
– Ceccacci entered a notice of motion for the reconsideration of vesting 75 Dell Street in Wallaceburg.
– South Kent Councillor Trevor Thompson entered a notice of motion to amend the special event late fee policy.
– A motion by Councillor Thompson was approved for the late fees incurred for a private event being held on municipal property, for a 40th anniversary event on June 1st at the Erieau multipurpose room, to be waived until a report is returned to council.
– West Kent Councillor Mark Authier entered notices of motion about Port Alma Lakefront Properties and about funding for the Merlin Legion.
– An announcement by the mayor for an Offer to Purchase a property in Harwich was removed from the agenda by staff.
– Lori Marshall, President and CEO, Chatham-Kent Health Alliance provided a presentation about the Chatham-Kent Ontario Health Team.
– Information reports on Provincial Budget Impacts to Chatham-Kent, Ontario Community Housing Renewal Strategy and Funding Allocations, N11 Services Chatham-Kent and an Update on Council Strategy Process to Set Priorities were received.
– Council also approved a motion to proceed with implementing 311 in Chatham-Kent.
– Tender award contracts were approved for the following: Fiber Reinforced Hot-Mix Paving, Supply and Application of Reclamite Preservative Seal, McNaughton Avenue West Improvements in Chatham and Cemetery Road Reconstruction.
– Request for Proposals were approved for: the Tilbury Stormwater Master Plan and the Development of a Corporate Technology Strategic Plan.
– Recommendations for the 2019 Playground Lifecycle Projects were approved.
– A report on the Connecting Links Program Application for the Grand Avenue East Rehabilitation in Chatham was approved.
– A report on the License Agreement with Hydro One Networks Inc. for municipal lands in McGregor/Kinsmen Park in Blenheim and along Chittim Road in Blenheim was approved.
– Council heard a presentation by Chantal Perry about the RentSmart: Chatham-Kent Landlord Association and Employment & Social Services Municipal Partnership.
– Council approved the Community Navigators – Pilot Project Extension.
– Council approved the Ridge Apartments: Wrap Up Report for the Social Infrastructure Fund – Social Housing Improvement Program.
– A report on a Request for Transfer from Senior Services Lifecycle Reserve was approved.
– A report on the Surplus Property Declaration May 2019 was approved.
– A report on the Provincial Efficiency Grant was approved.
– Council also met in Closed Session for the following reasons: Proposed disposition of land in Merlin, on South Talbot Road and in Dresden.
