Bike Rodeo this Saturday in Wallaceburg

Special to the Sydenham Current

This Saturday June 15 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. is the Wallaceburg Bike Rodeo at the Library Parking lot and Richardson Parkette.

What is a Bike Rodeo?

It is an opportunity for children to learn bike safety skills in a fun and friendly environment.

Children must be accompanied by a parent/guardian, have a helmet and bike.

After registering they will have a quick inspection of their bikes to make sure that they are ready to ride this summer.

There will be a helmet inspection to make sure that they are fitting properly and securely to keep their extraordinary minds safe from unexpected falls.

The children will participate in four obstacle courses.

This is a hand-on learn, teaching them the basic skills and abilities to handle their bikes.

Upon completion the children will receive a certificate of completion but that is not all.

Every child that participates and completes all aspects of the Bike Rodeo will be rewarded.

The first 50 children will receive a swag bag which was spearheaded by the Knights of Pythias, but do not worry they have made sure every child will receive something for completing this program.

All participants will be able to enter a bike raffle to win one of six bikes.

They will be able to choose which bike they would like to win. There will also be over 20 door prizes to be won.

While anyone that participates has a chance at the bike raffle even if they are not present, for the door prizes you need to be present.

They will also be receive a free all beef hot dog or veggie dogs for those that do not eat meat, bag of chips and a bottle of water.

The Library is holding some wonderful activities inside for all children even those that do not ride bikes or are not interested in the Bike Rodeo.

They also have two door prizes to be won.

There will be a bike valet open from 9:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. so that the children’s bikes are safe and secure as they enjoy the events in the Library that also start at 10 a.m.

Please make sure you see the bike valet attendants before registration.

The Comic Oasis, has also joined the fun in to support the children’s accomplishment.

During the rodeo kids can stop by for refreshments and if the bring in their certificates they get an instant $5 store credit, also that night they will be hosting a movie night for families it’s free and snacks will be available for purchase, movie starts at 7 p.m. and doors open at 6:30 p.m., children must be supervised and they are to bring chairs or something for all to sit on.

This will be a fun filled event that we hope to continue as an annual event.

We believe that it is important to invest in our children’s safety so that our future returns will be young adults that will not only be engaged in the community but riding their bikes safely.
