Chatham-Kent Council: June 24, 2019 recap

Chatham-Kent Council met for a regular meeting on Monday night, June 24, 2019.

Here is a recap of the meeting:

– A recommendation on the Ontario Heritage Act – Request to Demolish Listed Property, 595 Wallace Street, Community of Wallaceburg was approved by Council. Watch for a full story on the Sydenham Current.

– A report about the Community Partnership Fund, which included the 2019 Recommendations, was approved. Watch for a follow-up story on the Sydenham Current.

– A motion by Wallaceburg Councillor Aaron Hall about Canada Day Funding was pulled.

– Wallaceburg Councillor Carmen McGregor entered a notice of motion about parking in downtown Wallaceburg. Watch for more details on this item.

– South Kent Councillor Trevor Thompson entered a notice of motion about declaring a climate emergency in Chatham-Kent.

– An announcement by Mayor Darrin Canniff about a road closing east of Stanley Street in Merlin was approved.

– Information reports were received on the following: CKTransit Task Force Update, McKinlay Road Improvements, Community Living Wallaceburg Partnership and Approval of Invoices for Rick Holmes of the Graphic Emporium.

– A motion by East Kent Coun. Steve Pinsonneault to upgrade McKinlay Road from Rose Beach Line to New Scotland Line at a cost of $716,000 was denied by Council.

– A report on taxes and assessment adjusted to May 31, 2019 was approved.

– Tender awards were approved for the following: One 4WD Industrial 90 HP Tractor Loader, for New Indoor Pool Dehumidifier for Blenheim Gable Rees Rotary Pool, Fibre Reinforced Surface Treatment, Surface Treatment Contract, Rehabilitation of Cooper Road and Pollard Line Bridges over Government Drain #1 in Tilbury East and Resident Bathing, Mechanical Lift, Disinfectant and Bed Replacement for Riverview Gardens.

– Chantal Perry, Program Manager, Employment and Social Services, provided a presentation about the Chatham-Kent 2018 Housing and Homelessness Progress Report. Watch for a follow-up story on the Sydenham Current.

– The Ontario Transfer Payment Agreement for Canada-Ontario Community Housing Initiative (COCHI) & Ontario Priorities Housing Initiative (OPHI) and Municipal Contributions recommendation was approved.

– A report on the Asset Management Policy was approved.

– A report on an Offer to Purchase – 9 Sullivan Street in Merlin was approved.

– A report on the Municipality of Chatham-Kent Development Standards Manual was approved.

– A motion by West Kent Councillor Melissa Harrigan about C-K Support for Beautification Processes was approved.

– A report on Architectural Services regarding the Multi-Use Recreation Facility was approved. Watch for a full story on the Sydenham Current.

– A report on JM Controls & Electric Ltd. – Offer to Purchase was approved.

– Council will also meet in Closed Session to discuss the following: Proposed disposition of land by the municipality with regard to new school of the Catholic District School Board, proposed acquisition of land by the municipality with regard to Multi-Use Recreation Facility property and advice that is subject to solicitor-client privilege with regard to Erie Shore Drive.
