With the pending retirement of Fire Chief Bob Crawford on December 31 of this year, the municipality has embarked on a search for a successor.
Chatham-Kent General Manager of Community Development John Norton said the job posting for the position of Fire Chief for the Fire and Emergency Services department will remain open until September 9.
“We’re being proactive because we want a seamless transition for the new chief,” he said. “The position is a vital one which includes nearly 400 career and volunteer firefighters as well as oversight of paramedic services.”
By advertising early, Norton said there will be time to make a thoughtful and informed decision. The future of Fire and EMS services is extremely important and it is crucial that we hire the right person to lead the department forward.
He said the successful candidate will be a visible partner in the community and workplace and a champion of community engagement, development and sustainability.
Chief Crawford will be concluding his second stint as Fire Chief. He served as chief from 2001 to 2013, and served as general manager of community development before moving back into the fire chief’s position in 2017.
