Chatham-Kent Mayor Darrin Canniff today ended the state of emergency for the Erie Shore Drive area.

Municipal work crews have completed repairs to the dike including reinforcement and paving at a number of locations.

The road has been reopened from Bisnnet Line to Erieau Road for local traffic only.

Canniff expects provincial authorities will assess the affected area to determine if relief funding applies.

The mayor added all levels of government are working to come up with a long-term solution to the flooding problem that has affected the area for many years.

A State of Emergency was declared for Erie Shore Drive on August 27 after strong wind and waves battered the Lake Erie shoreline and caused significant flooding, forcing dozens of people to evacuate their lakefront homes.
