Tartan swimmers post SWOSSAA qualifying times at Sarnia meet

The LKSSAA region started their swim season last week in Sarnia at the YMCA, at the Wallaceburg Tartans Swim Team had a successful showing.

Nancy Schinkelshoek, head coach, said many Tartan swimmers have already posted SWOSSAA qualifying times.

“Quite an accomplishment in the first meet of the season,” Schinkelshoek said in an email to the media.

Wallaceburg swimmer Shona Branton, 16, posted a SWOSSAA qualifying time of 2:27.14 in the 200 metre open 13 and over women’s freestyle event. Branton also posted a SWOSSAA qualifying time of 1:15.92 in the the 100 metre IM open category. She also posted an OFSAA qualifying time of 1:15.54 in the 100 metre breaststroke event.

Reed Mathieson, 13, posted a SWOSSAA qualifying time of 37.11 in the the boys 50 metre junior backstroke event.

Cameron Hazzard, 14, posted a SWOSSAA qualifying time of 33.08 in the boy’s 50 metre junior freestyle event.

Schinkelshoek said the team from ESPC features local Wallaceburg residents, including: Vanessa Hagen, Hope Johnston and Riley Burm.

Both ESPC and WDSS will travel to Windsor for an invitational meet on December, 3 for their next meet of the season.

Another meet will be held in Wallaceburg on Dec 17 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
