Blenheim Rotary donates accessible vehicle to Family Service Kent

The Blenheim Rotary Club has partnered with Family Service Kent to help continuously improve the community by donating an accessible vehicle that can hold two to three passengers using wheelchairs and four walk on passengers.

Family Service Kent officials said Rotary is the largest and the oldest Service Club in the world and takes an interest in the concerns of the community as well as in the special needs of individuals.

“This mandate is a perfect fit with Family Service Kent’s vision that every person within Chatham-Kent to have the opportunity to achieve their full potential,” Family Service Kent officials said in a press release.

The donated vehicle, which was previously used for Rotary projects in Blenheim, will allow individuals and families age 0-60 to have an affordable, accessible transportation option to access destinations outside of Chatham-Kent, a service which had not been offered in the past for this demographic, Family Service Kent officials said.

“All transportation fares will be based on passengers’ ability to pay,” Family Service Kent officials stated.

“The rates operate on a sliding scale and are determined by filling out an Application for Service and providing proof of combined gross household income.”

The program began accepting referrals from the general public on November 1, 2019.

Family Service Kent is a local non-profit agency that provides multiple services to support, empower, and advocate for members of the community.

Interested residents can call 519-354-6221 ext. 275 or email advantage@familyservicekent.com for more information about the transportation service and to request an application form.
