Basketball tourney supporting Hayden’s Hope Foundation

An annual basketball tournament in Wallaceburg is being held in support of the Hayden Foulon Foundation.

The 5th annual 4-on-4 basketball tournament is being held on Saturday, May 30 at Wallaceburg District Secondary School, with a draft and open gym being held the night before.

Nick Persyn, the event organizer, told the Sydenham Current it is a fun day of basketball that donates funds to support a great cause each year.

“Men and women ages 14 and up are welcome with an entry fee of $40,” Persyn said.

“The team draft happens on the Friday night with an open gym to follow. This year part of the $40 fee goes towards the Hayden Foulon Foundation.”

Persyn said more information about the cause can be found at: https://haydenshopefoundation.com/

Foulon passed away last year after a courageous battle with leukemia.

Persyn said there will also be a cash prize for the first place team.

“The Saturday games usually start by 9 a.m. and continue with playoffs until 4 p.m. or 5 p.m. Come and have a fun day of competitive basketball.”

Persyn said people are welcome to watch the games throughout the day.

“This is a family event with spectators very welcome,” he said.

If anyone is interested in playing, contact Persyn through Facebook or by phone at 519-437-7131.

Each year the 4-on-4 tournament donates to a different local cause.

The first year, proceeds supported the Fields family, who’s son Brayden was in a horrific car crash. The second year, supported the Wallaceburg Fireworks, in 2018 proceeds went to Cystinosis research, as Wallaceburg’s Adam and Katelyn Campbell’s two children suffer from this rare disease.

Last year, proceeds went toward the Heart and Stroke Foundation in memory of Susan Persyn.
