Man charged with assault police

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Late yesterday afternoon, an officer on general patrol observed a man, known to him as a suspended driver, behind the wheel operating a vehicle on Charing Cross Road.

The man pulled into a laneway in front of an apartment complex in Charing Cross.

The officer followed the vehicle and placed the man under arrest.

In an attempt to resist arrest, the man pushed the officer and fled on foot.

During the foot chase through a nearby yard, the man turned towards the officer in an aggressive manner.

A conducted energy weapon (taser) was deployed and the man was taken into custody.

Upon being searched incident to arrest, the man was found to be in possession of suspected crystal methamphetamine.

A 31-year-old Chatham man was charged with resist arrest, assault police, driving while disqualified, drug possession, driving with no insurance, using plates not authorized for the vehicle and driving while under suspension.

He was released pending a future court date of June 11, 2020.

His vehicle has been impounded for 45 days as per the Vehicle Impoundment Program.

Traffic stop leads to drug charges

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Around 1 a.m. this morning, an officer on general patrol initiated a traffic stop for an HTA violation on Craven Drive in Chatham.

Through investigation, the officer learned that the driver was wanted on several outstanding warrants.

The man was arrested and found to be in possession of suspected crystal methamphetamine, cocaine and cannabis upon being searched.

A 63-year-old Ridgetown man was additionally charged with two counts of drug possession.

He was released pending a future court date of June 11, 2020.

Executed warrants

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Early yesterday morning, police located a man in the area of Lacroix Street and Lorne Avenue in Chatham who was wanted for theft under $5,000 and failing to comply with his release conditions.

A 34-year-old Wallaceburg man was released pending a future court date of June 9, 2020.

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Around 9:30 a.m. yesterday morning, an officer on general patrol observed a suspicious woman attempting to evade police on Harvey Street in Chatham.

The officer identified the woman and learned that she was wanted for fraud related offences and failing to comply with her release conditions.

A 36-year-old Chatham woman was arrested and released pending a future court date of June 2, 2020.

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday afternoon, police located a man in Chatham who was wanted for numerous offences related to a family dispute along with failing to comply with his release conditions and failing to attend court.

The 26-year-old Chatham man was arrested and released pending a future court date of June 9, 2020.

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Last night, officers arrested a man in Wallaceburg who was wanted on several outstanding warrants.

The 29-year-old Walpole Island man was additionally charged with being in possession of suspected fentanyl.

He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Mischief in Harwich Township

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Sometime over the weekend, unknown suspects smashed the windows out of three tractors, two vehicles and a home under renovation on Talbot Trail.

Total damage was estimated at $5,000.
