Fight fear with faith

From The Pastor’s Pen – By Brian Horrobin

The COVID-19 crisis that has gripped our world this past while is right here in Chatham-Kent, as well.

There’s no getting around it and we can’t hide from it.

News reports of dire situations and long lines at the grocery stores indicate that many are paralyzed with crippling fear.

We have a fight on our hands and the only weapon that will prevail at such a time as this is the fight of faith.

The need to turn to the Lord is greater now than ever.

I want you to consider these powerful and comforting words from Psalm 46: “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, even though the earth be removed, and the mountains be carried into the heart of the sea. Be still and know that I am God.”

Things are changing rapidly in our world due to this vicious virus, with news reports fluctuating daily.

Isn’t it good to know that God does not change?

He is a constant, an ever-present help to us, even when the world around us seems to be falling apart at the seams.

I want to recommend that you spend some time with the television off and your Bible open.

We need to shift our focus from our problem to our Provider and Protector, the Lord Himself.

Avail yourself of one of the many church services offering live-streaming as a fresh change from depressing news reports.

We have churches right here in Chatham-Kent offering these services and are easy to look up on the internet.

Also, spend time praying and asking God to help you.

You might even want to call up a family member or neighbour and encourage them to do the same.

Now that’s something you CAN spread!
