House fire in Chatham causes $180,000 damage

The investigation is on-going after a blaze in Chatham caused an estimated $180,000.

Chatham-Kent Fire & Emergency Services officials said firefighters responded to a fire at 24 Brock Street on Monday, March 30 at 10:13 a.m.

“When firefighters arrived on screen there was heavy smoke coming from the structure,” fire officials said in a press release.

“Crews quickly extinguished the fire. There were no injuries and damage is estimated at $180,000. The cause of the fire is currently being investigated by CKFES.”

Fire officials offeredf some tips to the public following the blaze.

“Protect your family from fire and carbon monoxide by having working smoke alarms on every level of your home and working CO alarms outside all sleeping areas (if your home has any fuel burning appliances, a fireplace, or an attached garage),” fire officials say.
