Hike for Hospice goes virtual

Hike for Hospice Chatham-Kent has gone virtual.

Instead of gathering together at Mud Creek Trail on June 14, 2020, hikers will participate in an activity of their choice anytime between June 1 and 14, 2020.

“The health and safety of our hikers and volunteers is our top priority,” said Amanda McKinlay, Hike for Hospice co-chair, in a media release.

“A virtual hike allows participants to run or walk at any location with the flexibility and convenience of hiking at any time, at their own speed and distance. While there is no longer a registration fee for the event, we encourage people to still sign up so we know they are participating and so they can set up an online fundraising page.”

With all of the uncertainty with COVID-19, the group is continuing with this event virtually so people still have an opportunity to support compassionate, end-of-life hospice care for families in Chatham-Kent, said Nathan McKinlay, Hike for Hospice co-chair and Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation director.

“It also provides a way to stay active in self-quarantine, self-isolation or physical distancing,” McKinlay said in a press release.

“Now is the time to come together, while staying apart, to ensure this care continues to be available at no cost to residents and their families when they need it most.”
