Gus Wolting of Chatham

On May 10, 2020, our dear husband, father, Grampa and Opa, Gus Wolting, joined the triumphant church in heaven.

Gus was born on February 14, 1930, in Zwinderen, DR, Netherlands.

He immigrated to Canada in 1950, where he met the love of his life, Irene Vandersluis.

They were married for 65 years, and have been lifelong members of First Christian Reformed Church in Chatham.

Gus and Irene were blessed with 4 children: Ann & Dennis Rolph, Ray & Jenny Wolting, Gerry & Linda Wolting and Henry & Elaine Wolting.

Their family grew to include 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren: Shannon & Cody Neath (Claire, Marlowe, Gus), Stephanie Rolph, Greg & Ashley Wolting (Hunter, Owen, Jace), Alicia & Rich Kralt (Amelia, Roslyn, Logan), Jessica Wolting, Corey Wolting, Kristy & Scott May (Reagan, Ryleigh, Braden), Kevin & Jackie Wolting (Ariella, Zander, Seth), Valerie & Eric Hystek (Savanna, Paisley), Justin Wolting, Jordan Wolting, and Jeremy Wolting.

Gus was predeceased by 6 siblings: brothers Hendrik, Jan, Bert, Rieks and Albert; sister Alie.

Gus retired in 1985 after 30 years with Navistar.

It was then that he could devote more time to his beloved nursery which brought him so much pleasure over the years.

He was a kind, soft-spoken gentleman whose final words of advice to his family was to “Follow the Lord”.

Those wishing to make a donation in his memory are asked to consider Chatham Christian School (this can be done online or e-transfers sent to office@chathamchristian.ca).

Due to the current COVID-19 situation, the memorial service will be limited to immediate family on Wednesday, May 13th, at 11:00 a.m.
