Significant rainfall expected Sunday to Monday

A special weather statement has been issued across Chatham-Kent, as significant rainfall is expected Sunday night through Monday night.

“Periods of rain are expected to begin in the Windsor area near noon Sunday and spread across all of southwestern Ontario by evening,” forecasters say.

“Periods of rain will become heavy at times and will continue through Monday night. The rain is expected to taper off early Tuesday although timing of the end of the rain is uncertain.”

Total rainfall amounts averaging 30 to 60 mm are expected, but with locally higher amounts possible in thunderstorms, Environment Canada officials say.

Environment Canada will continue to monitor the situation closely.

Rainfall warnings may be issued as the event draws nearer and the areas with potential to receive the heaviest downpours become more apparent, forecasters added.

Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada.
