Inspections taking place at the Baseline Bridge, delays expected

Residents in Wallaceburg can expect some delays around the Baseline Bridge this week.

Municipality of Chatham-Kent officials say detailed inspections will be taking place on the bridge from Monday, May 25 to Friday, May 29, 2020.

Baseline Road, between Gillard Street and Old Glass Road, will be closed periodically throughout the week.

There will be intermittent bridge openings and closings throughout the day and residents should expect minor delays, Municipal officials say.

A rehabilitation project for the Baseline Bridge in Wallaceburg received Council approval on Monday night, April 27, 2020.

The tender contract was awarded to the lowest bidder, Landform Civil Infrastructures Inc. of Hamilton, Ontario, at a value not to exceed $2,196,194.

Municipality of Chatham-Kent staff will negotiate an agreement with the contractor to bring the project closer to the budgeted amount, as Landform’s bid had totaled $2,888,675.50.

If the negotiation proves to be unsuccessful, the contract will be cancelled and separate tenders will be issued for the structural and mechanical work required for the bridge.

During the Monday, May 11, 2020 Council meeting Municipal officials said the negotiations with the contractor were still ongoing.
