Paramedic Services Week being celebrated across C-K

It’s Paramedic Services Week and across Canada paramedics are being recognized for the important role they’ve been playing on the front lines of the health care system during the COVID-19 pandemic, including right here in Chatham-Kent.

To mark the week, Chatham-Kent EMS and Medavie EMS Ontario Chatham Kent want to recognize and thank the highly trained paramedics who provide outstanding quality pre-hospital clinical care throughout the Municipality of Chatham-Kent.

“Our paramedics have answered the call during this unique and challenging time in health care,” stated Donald MacLellan, Chatham-Kent EMS General Manager, in a media release.

“The team has remained professional and have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to working with system partners to provide robust care and innovative mobile healthcare solutions to their patients and community.”

Paramedics can adjust their clinical practice quickly in a variety of settings and adapting during the COVID-19 response has been critical – where clinical and protective measures have been constantly changing, Chatham-Kent EMS officials say.

In addition to this response, Community Paramedics have continued to provide supportive care to patients with complex medical needs in their homes and in community settings; and have helped carry out proactive COVID-19 testing for Chatham-Kent’s most vulnerable populations.

Chatham-Kent EMS officials say they would also like to acknowledge the exceptional partnerships in the health care community that help advance the role of paramedicine in communities nationally and here at home.

“It’s been a team effort since the beginning to ensure our community remains healthy throughout this pandemic,” MacLellan said.

Paramedic Services Week runs from May 24 to May 30.

This year’s theme is “Pandemic: Paramedics on the Front Line”.

It’s a week celebrating paramdics and everyone who supports the important work in our communities, large and small, Chatham-Kent EMS officials say.

With physical distancing and other public health measures associated with COVID-19, celebrations this year will be more virtual in-nature.

While Chatham-Kent EMS won’t be hosting any open houses at the paramedic station or interactive public events, they appreciate the profound showing of support from the community.

Chatham-Kent EMS officials say the team would like to acknowledge the public for their words of encouragement on social media, food donations, artwork and visual messages – it has been greatly appreciated.
