Accessibility award recipients announced

The Chatham-Kent Accessibility Advisory Committee acknowledged the 2019 Accessibility Award recipients at the June 15th Chatham-Kent Council virtual meeting.

Three annual awards were acknowledged:

Eden Villa Retirement & Assisted Living received the “Dr. Veronica Vaughan Most Accessible Business Award” for creating a facility to serve people of all abilities and providing accessible customer service.

St. Clair College – Chatham Campus was awarded the “Sheila Lindsey-Powers Accessibility Advocate Award” for their continuous dedication to removing physical and attitudinal barriers.

The “Sid Ebare Perseverance Award” was awarded to Rick Francis for his years of hard work and dedication to the Chatham-Kent Accessibility Advisory Committee and his Community.

Mayor Canniff offered his sincere congratulations to all participants and recognized the value of accessibility initiatives in the community.

“I wish to thank the hard work of the Chatham-Kent Accessibility Advisory Committee,” Mayor Canniff said in a press release.

“Their efforts in helping to create an accessible community allows for increased interaction and engagement of all of our community members, reduces social isolation, improves mental health and increases economic gains for local businesses.”
