Patricia Sowerbutts of Wallaceburg

Patricia “Grammy Pat” Sowerbutts passed away quietly on Tuesday June 23, 2020 at the age of 86 after a battle with cancer.

Making the North Atlantic crossing with two small children and her husband in 1966 she immigrated to Canada from South-End-On-Sea, England.

A long time resident of Corunna and Wallaceburg, she loved to spend time fishing, boating and looking out over the Sydenham river.

She was strong, feisty, sassy and independent but had the kindest soul. She wouldn’t hesitate to lovingly call you a dumbass or dish out a well timed “pffffffffftttt” if you said or did something ridiculous.

Mum ( aka ‘Stevie’ ) would always have a cookie or a ham roll at the ready to join a cuppa tea, just in case you were peckish (just take the damn ham roll).

She spent her last days surrounded by the love of her family and friends.

Her memory will forever be carried in our hearts and actions.

She is survived by her son Mark and his wife Diane, son Paul and his wife Peggy, and son Brett, Judi, granddaughters Morgan, Rachel, Mackenzie and Leah, grandson Nathan and his wife Caitlin, great grandchildren Adele and Cullen, extended Rabideau family Brad and Karen, Cherrie and Kim, Dale and Lisa, Janet and Joe, Penny and Tim, grandchildren Jeffery (d)BJ and Leanne, Chris and Ariel, Kenie and Steve, Shelby-Anne, Braydon, Devon, Mikayla, Hunter, and great grandchildren Alanna, Callie, Jessie, Alycia, Mila, Bowen, Tessa, Eva, and Jace.

Last but not least her constant and loyal furry companion Lucy.

She was preceded in death by her husband John Sowerbutts in 1985 and her cherished love Delas Rabideau in 2013.

The family would like to thank Mom’s nurses Lisa, Melanie, Diane and Kelly, her PSWs Tammy, and Lovette, the ladies of VON, Chantelle, Cody, Jacklyn and Nancy.

All of these people who without their support we would not have been able to provide Mom with the care that she needed.

She was never just a patient to you, you all treated her with love.

A celebration of mum’s life will be planned for a later date when everyone can safely gather.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the VON Chatham Kent, The Canadian Cancer Society or send someone you love an unexpected card or flowers to brighten their day.

The late Patricia Sowerbutts rested at the Eric F. Nicholls Funeral Home Ltd., 639 Elgin Street, in Wallaceburg. Cremation has taken place.
