Traffic stop leads to criminal charges

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday afternoon, an officer on general patrol in Chatham observed a man driving a car on King Street with two different license plates.

The officer initiated a traffic stop and determined that the license plates were stolen.

A 30-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with being in possession of property obtained by a crime under $5,000, driving while under suspension, using plates not authorized for the vehicle and driving with no insurance.

He was released pending a future court date of August 12, 2020.

Man charged with breaching release conditions

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: On May 26, 2020 a man was released from custody with several conditions.

One of those conditions stated that he was to obey a daily curfew of 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Police have since received information that the man has breached his curfew on at least two occasions.

A 55-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with two counts of failing to comply with his release conditions.

He was released pending a future court date of August 18, 2020.

Neighbour dispute leads to assault charges

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Last night, police responded to a neighbour dispute in Tilbury.

A 23-year-old Tilbury man was arrested and charged with assaulting his neighbour.

He was released pending a future court date of August 5, 2020.

Minor injuries were reported.

Charges laid following disturbance in Merlin

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Last night, police responded to a disturbance between two men known to each other at a residence in Merlin.

The victim, a 25-year-old Merlin man sustained serious injuries and was transported to the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance for medical attention.

A 41-year-old Blenheim man was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and mischief for damaging the victim’s phone.

He was released pending a future court date of August 6, 2020.

Man charged with mischief

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Last night, police responded to a domestic disturbance at a residence in Chatham.

Through investigation, police learned that following a verbal argument, the man damaged a window to the home.

The 21-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with mischief under $5,000.

He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Man charged with impaired driving

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Last night, police responded to a collision in the drive thru of a local business on St. Clair Street in Chatham.

Through investigation, police believed the man was driving while under the influence of alcohol and he was arrested.

He was transported to the OPP station for breath tests.

A 20-year-old Dresden man was charged with having a blood alcohol concentration exceeding the legal limit.

He was released pending a future court date of July 23, 2020.

His vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days as per the Vehicle Impoundment Program.

Youth charged with breaching curfew

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: On March 31, 2020 a youth was released from court with several conditions.

One of those conditions stated that he was to obey a daily curfew of 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Shortly after 1:30 a.m. this morning, officers responded to the report of a suspicious person in the area of Sandys Street in Chatham.

The 16-year-old Chatham youth was located and arrested.

He has been charged with failing to comply with his release conditions and held in custody pending a bail hearing.
