Pair charged with domestic related offences

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday afternoon, police responded to a domestic disturbance at a residence in Chatham.

Through investigation, police learned that a verbal argument escalated into a physical altercation and that this was not the first incident of domestic violence during the couple’s relationship.

The 35-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm, three counts of assault and three counts of uttering threats.

The 25-year-old Chatham woman was arrested and charged with assault, assault with a weapon and mischief under $5000.

Both the man and woman have been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Report of suspicious man leads to weapon charges

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday afternoon, police responded to the report of a suspicious man on Riverview Drive in Chatham.

The man was swinging a golf club at passing vehicles while yelling at people.

Officers located the man on Irwin Street.

The man continued to swing the golf club and refused to drop it.

As the man raised the club in an aggressive manner, officers deployed a conducted energy weapon.

A 55-year-old Chatham man was taken into custody and charged with being in possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

He was released pending a future court date of August 19, 2020.

Pair charged after communicating with each other

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: On May 14, 2020, the man was released from court with several conditions.

Three of those conditions stated that he was to remain in his residence at all times except for medical emergencies, not to communicate with a specific Chatham woman or attend her home.

Yesterday afternoon, police received information that the man was at the woman’s apartment.

Officers located the man on the property and he was arrested.

The 57-year-old Chatham man was charged with three counts of failing to comply with his release conditions.

He was released pending a future court date of August 21, 2020.

The 45-year-old Chatham woman was arrested and charged with facilitating a breach.

She was released pending a future court date of August 19, 2020.

Man charged with failing to comply

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday afternoon, police responded to the report of a man walking in and out of traffic on Wellington Street in Chatham.

Officers located the man near a convenience store on Grand Avenue and through investigation learned that he was currently bound by conditions not to attend this store.

The 37-year-old man of no fixed address was arrested and charged with failing to comply with his release conditions and breach of probation.

He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Man charged with mischief

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: On Sunday afternoon, an unknown man attended a building on Grand Avenue in Chatham and threw a rock at the front door, causing the glass to shatter.

With the assistance of video surveillance, police identified the man responsible.

Early this morning, police located the man and he was arrested.

A 37-year-old man of no fixed address has been charged with mischief under $5,000.

He was released pending a future court date.

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday morning, members of ‘A’ platoon conducted traffic enforcement on Charing Cross Road.

14 motorists were stopped and charged with speeding.
