Masks becoming mandatory for riders on CKTransit

Effective Wednesday, July 29, CKTransit will be changing the requirements of riders using public transit vehicles.

With the support of Chatham-Kent Public Health, the use of face coverings will be changing from highly recommended to mandatory, Municipal officials say.

“With the removal of seating limitations earlier this week and with ridership increasing as Chatham-Kent continues to enter Stage 3 of Ontario’s COVID-19 Reopening Plan, physical distancing will not always be possible on buses,” Municipal officials said in a media release.

“Therefore, riders will now be required to wear a face covering prior to entering the bus and continue to wear it until they exit the bus.”

Chatham-Kent continues to support physical distancing wherever possible which is in concert with Provincial Health Guidelines, Municipal officials say.

“Keep two metres between yourself and others… practice good personal hygiene including frequent hand washing with soap and water or use hand sanitizer,” Municipal officials say.

“If you are experiencing any cold or flu-like symptoms, stay home.”

Municipal officials added service providers continue to perform enhanced cleaning procedures on all vehicles.
