Two new COVID-19 cases brings C-K’s total to 243

CK Public Health officials have confirmed two new cases of COVID-19, bringing the total number of positive cases in Chatham-Kent to 243.

There are now 55 active cases of the virus across the community as of Thursday, July 30, 2020.

A total of 51 of the 55 active cases are self-isolating, while four people are hospitalized.

CK Public Health officials say 38 of the active cases are related to close contact, one is related to travel, one is related to an institutional outbreak outside of Chatham-Kent and the cause of one case is unknown. The cause of 11 of the active cases are still pending.

The cause of three of the active cases is related to an active workplace outbreak in Chatham-Kent. Details about the active workplace outbreak have not been released by CK Public Health. There had been a previous workplace outbreak in Chatham-Kent, but it was declared over.

A total of 187 people have recovered from COVID-19 in Chatham-Kent and one person has died.

There have been zero outbreaks at long-term care and retirement homes in Chatham-Kent.

In total, 13,759 COVID-19 tests have been administered to date.

CK Public Health officials said in a press release on Wednesday, July 29, 2020 an investigation of the recent surge of COVID-19 cases in Chatham-Kent revealed that these cases are occurring within Low German speaking communities, across a broad band of Southwestern Ontario.
