Library drop-offs open across Chatham-Kent

All Chatham-Kent Public Library drop-offs are open at every branch across the community.

“Returns are now accepted at all 11 CKPL branch book drops, library officials said in a media release.

“Library materials will be quarantined for 72 hours (or more) before being checked in. You will continue to see returned items on your account until the quarantine period is over and staff are able to check them in.”

Library officials added: “Items returned in the book drops will be back-dated to March 16, 2020. No overdue fines will accrue while the libraries are closed.”

Library officials are encouraging people to call them to arrange the return of items too big for the book drop.

“CKPL is now automatically renewing items that are not on hold for another patron,: library officials say.

“Items with no holds can be renewed two times before they need to be returned to the library. During curbside service, items are checked out for three weeks for all formats except park passes, which have a one week loan period.”

The Curbside service is continuing as well.

“While library buildings remain closed, CKPL’s Curbside Service is going strong,” library officials say.

“To date, over 36,000 items have been checked out using curbside service.

How does curbside service work?

– Place your holds online or by phone.

– Call the library or go online to set up an appointment (search for curbside service).

– When you arrive at the set appointment time, come to the library vestibule, show your library card or picture ID and your items will be bagged and ready for you.

– Curbside Service is available at six locations across Chatham-Kent: Chatham, Blenheim, Dresden, Ridgetown, Tilbury and Wallaceburg. Learn more on our website at www.ckpl.ca.

Library officials say the virtual summer reading for kids program is underway. Sign up online at ckpl.readsquared.com.

The virtual branch is also open, library officials say.

“CKPL invites you to explore the virtual library of ebooks, audiobooks, magazines, movies and music by visiting www.ckpl.ca/download,” officials say.

“Don’t have a library card? Sign up for a temporary account at www.ckpl.ca/virtualcards.”
