Man charged with assault

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Around noon yesterday, police responded to a disturbance between two men known to each other in a parking lot at a local convenience store in Chatham.

Through investigation, police learned that the man punched out the window of the victim’s vehicle and put him in a headlock, striking him several times.

The victim was able to escape and fled the scene in his vehicle.

The 38-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with assault and mischief under $5,000.

He was released pending a future court date of September 23, 2020.

Collision leads to impaired driving charges

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday afternoon, police responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Stewart Avenue in Tilbury.

Through investigation, police learned that the woman lost control of her vehicle and hit a hydro pole.

The officer believed the woman was driving while under the influence of alcohol.

She was arrested and transported to police headquarters for breath tests.

A 33-year-old Kingsville woman was charged with having a blood alcohol concentration exceeding the legal limit and driving while prohibited.

She was released pending a future court date of September 9, 2020.

Shoplifting leads to assault charges

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Last night, a man attended Shoppers Drug Mart on St. Clair Street in Chatham and concealed a bottle of cologne in his backpack.

An employee approached the man outside as he exited the store, making no attempt to pay for the cologne.

A verbal argument began as the man turned over the stolen cologne.

Police were called when the man started swinging a hammer towards the employee.

Officers located the man a short distance away, still in possession of the hammer.

Through investigation, police also learned that the man was currently bound by a Probation Order not to attend this store.

A 29-year-old man, of no fixed address, has been charged with failing to comply with his Probation Order, theft under $5,000, being in possession of property obtained by a crime under $5,000 and assault with a weapon.

He was released pending a future court date of September 22, 2020.

Man charged with domestic related assault

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday morning, a verbal argument between the couple escalated into a physical altercation, resulting in the man biting the woman on the nose.

Last night, police located the man and he was arrested.

The 59-year-old Chatham man has been charged with assault and held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Police investigate four vehicle collision

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday morning, emergency crews responded to a four vehicle collision at the intersection of Keil Drive and Richmond Street in Chatham.

Two people were transported to hospital with minor injuries.

Total damage was estimated at $50,000.

A 37-year-old London man was charged with careless driving.

Stolen truck in Chatham

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Last night, around 6 p.m. unknown suspects stole a black 2005 GMC pick-up truck from a parking lot on St. Clair Street.

The truck was last seen with Ontario license plates 585 8FS.
