‘Mobile Miracle Market’ being launched in Chatham-Kent

After an overwhelming success during the May 16th Miracle, the Miracle Project team and the CK Prosperity Roundtable, in partnership with various organizations, are carrying the vision forward with the launch of the Mobile Miracle Market.

Organizers say the Mobile Miracle Market is a weekly market travelling to communities across Chatham-Kent to hand out fresh, local produce boxes.

“Our goal is to continue this program long term, remove stigma, and to ensure that everyone who would like to participate has access to local, healthy food from the mobile market,” stated Rachel Guerin, Community Food Connector, in a media release.

The Mobile Miracle Market uses a pay it forward model, organizers say.

“The ‘get a box, give a box’ campaign helps to keep the miracle growing,” organizers said.

“Everyone gets a free produce box. You have the option to pay it forward by ‘giving a box’ to another person. Any amount you donate will help to cover another person’s produce box. While the produce boxes are $15/box, you can donate whatever amount you choose. No amount is too little.”

The Mobile Miracle Market will operate Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays.

“The Mobile Miracle Market plans to reach communities in the more rural areas of Chatham-Kent without grocery stores or many food supports first,” organizers said.

“Over the coming weeks, the Mobile Miracle Market will begin to expand to cover as many communities across Chatham-Kent as possible. With the cost of healthy food and usage of local food banks on the rise, the Mobile Miracle Market Team needs your help. The team is looking for volunteers to help harvest produce, to package and hand out boxes in each community, and help spread the word on social media and in your neighbourhood.”

The team is also hoping to connect with local growers and community groups who want to donate fresh, local produce to the Miracle Market, organizers say.

You can visit their website www.mobilemiraclemarket.com or Facebook page to learn more about the project, donate, sign up to be a volunteer, and get in touch.

“Chatham-Kent is a caring and compassionate community,” said Phillip Mock, Project Coordinator for the CK Prosperity Roundtable, in a media release.

“Chatham-Kent has shown that they can make miracles happen by coming together like never before because together, everything is possible.”

This project was made possible with the support of the Government of Canada’s Emergency Community Support Fund, United Way of Chatham-Kent, and the Chatham-Kent Community Foundation.

The Mobile Miracle Market will be coming to a community near you starting September 15, 2020.
