Huey told the Sydenham Current she started donating blood as soon as she was eligible.

Encouraged by her mother, who was a nurse, donating blood was made into a family activity that they did together, she said.

Huey added that the process of donating blood was “much different” than it is today.

Huey said she feels it is important to donate, as there are many people that need blood and have no other way to get it.

“If you can do it, you should, it doesn’t cost you anything but your time,” Huey said, adding that she will continue to donate regularly until she is told she can’t.

Patty Henderson, a volunteer with Canadian Blood Services, presented Huey with a pin to mark the occasion.

The next blood donor clinic in Wallaceburg is set for December 1, 2020 and the next clinic in Dresden is set for December 29, 2020.
