Baseline Bridge set to be closed until January for rehabilitation

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent has secured a contractor for the rehabilitation of the Baseline Bridge in Wallaceburg, the Municipality announced on Friday, October 16, 2020 in a press release.

“Commencing Monday, October 19, 2020, the Baseline Bridge will be closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic until approximately January 15, 2021,” Municipal officials stated.

“After that date, the bridge will be opened to vehicular and pedestrian traffic until the spring of 2021. An additional bridge closure is required in the spring of 2021 to complete specialized paving work. Details will be provided at a later date.”

Municipal officials say a navigational opening of 2.6 m x 12.0 m will be maintained throughout construction for smaller boats only.

“All other marine traffic will not be able to pass after Sunday, October 25, 2020 at 7 p.m.,” Municipal officials say.
