Wind warning issued in Chatham-Kent

A special weather statement has been upgraded to a wind warning across Chatham-Kent.

Environment Canada officials say strong winds gusting up to 90 km/h are expected Sunday afternoon and evening.

“A strengthening low pressure system is forecast to track across northeastern Ontario Sunday,” forecasters say.

“This system will bring southerly winds gusting up to 70 km/h Sunday morning. Winds will then shift to the west and strengthen with isolated gusts up to 90 km/h beginning late Sunday afternoon. Winds are expected to ease Sunday evening.”

Power outages are possible, Environment Canada officials added.

“Damage to buildings, such as to roof shingles and windows, may occur,” forecasters say.

“High winds may toss loose objects or cause tree branches to break.”

Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada, forecasters say.
