Police: B&E, shoplifting at Walmart in Wallaceburg, share the road reminder

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: On December 19, 2020 at approximately 4 a.m., the rear garage of TAJ Variety located at 187 King Street East was forcefully broken into.

Suspects entered the garage and stole several case of 2L bottles of Pepsi and a Daymack e-Bike valued at $1,000.

The e-Bike is red and white with three Chicago Blackhawk Stickers on the front of the bike.

Man arrested on outstanding warrant

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: The Chatham-Kent Police have arrested a 26-year-old man on an outstanding warrant for failing to comply with his probation.

On December 20, 2020 at approximately 12:25 a.m., the man was located on Queen Street where he was arrested and transported to Chatham-Kent Police Headquarters and released with a court date of January 29, 2021.

Shoplifting incident leads to several charges and arrest on outstanding warrant

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: On December 19, 2020 at approximately 10:25 a.m. the Chatham-Kent Police responded to 60 McNaughton Avenue in Wallaceburg at Walmart in relation to a shoplifting incident.

The man selected several items from the store and concealed them in a duffle bag and left the store without making
any attempts to pay for the items.

When approached by security the male became aggressive and threatening with security.

He fled the scene after a struggle with security.

The man was later identified, located and arrested.

He was on conditions not to attend the Walmart in Wallaceburg and had an outstanding warrant for failing to attend court.

The 30-year-old Wallaceburg man was transported to Chatham-Kent Police Headquarters and held in custody pending a bail hearing where he faces charges of theft under $5,000, possession under $5,000, breach of recognizance, breach of undertaking, assault, utter threats and escape lawful custody.

Reminder to share the roadway

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Please be mindful of cyclists on the roadway even in the winter and cold weather when you may not expect them.

Motorists are reminded to share the roadway.

By law, every person in charge of a motor vehicle on a highway, who is overtaking a person travelling on a bicycle shall, as nearly as may be practical, leave a distance of not less than one meter between the bicycle and the motor vehicle and shall maintain that distance until safely pass the bicycle. S. 148 (6.1) Highway Traffic Act.
