Freezing rain possible Friday afternoon

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for Chatham-Kent, as freezing rain is possible on Friday afternoon, January 1, 2021.

“A period of freezing rain is forecast to begin Friday afternoon over extreme Southwestern Ontario,” forecasters say.

“Freezing rain is likely to be mixed with rain. Some ice accretion is possible. The mix of rain and freezing rain will transition to rain later Friday afternoon or early Friday evening.”

This precipitation is associated with a low pressure system moving north from Texas, forecasters added.

“There is still some uncertainty about the exact track of the system as it approaches Lake Erie, which will affect the exact timing and duration of the freezing rain,” Environment Canada officials say.

“Freezing rain warnings may be needed as the event draws closer.”

Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada, officials say.
