Grass loses momentum while the grain and feed business changes hands: Greenmelk Merger

In the later 1950’s some of Greenmelk’s products became unprofitable.

The most telling example was their lines of grass related merchandise.

In 1959 Jock Appleton, the plant’s manager, was transferred.

He was replaced by Eugene Korber.

Though the grass products were struggling, Greenmelk’s grain and feed division was doing well.

The potential of the business was recognized by Maple Leaf Mills and they purchased Greenmelk in 1969.

After the acquisition Greenmelk merged with St. Clair Grain and Feeds, a division on Maple Leafs Mills.
